FAQs

Which type of toothbrush should I use?

As long as you are using a soft toothbrush with a small head, the brand of the toothbrush does not matter. It’s very important not to “scrub” your teeth, which can contribute to gum recession. It’s also very important that you get a professional dental cleaning at least twice a year to take off the buildup that you can’t get with your toothbrush. Back To Top

Is one toothpaste better than others?

Generally, no. As long as it contains ADA recommended fluoride, we want our patients to find the right flavor of toothpaste that they prefer.  Back To Top

How often should I floss?

At least once a day. Brushing and mouthrinses will NOT get rid of the plaque buildup in-between your teeth, so flossing is a MUST. Hence the saying “Floss the ones you want to keep.” Flossing also helps to keep your gums healthy. Back To Top

What’s the difference between a “bridge” and a “partial denture”?

Both bridges and partial dentures replace missing teeth. Patients prefer the bridges over partial dentures, because a bridge is permanently attached to adjacent teeth, while a partial denture is attached by clasps to the teeth and comes in and out. An advantage of a partial denture would be that you can replace multiple teeth at once. Back To Top

Many common medications and aging can cause dry mouth. One of the reasons that people get “morning breath” is due to decreased saliva during sleep. Many people also experience dry mouth while under stress, public speaking, or mouth breathing. It’s important to treat dry mouth, because reduced saliva can mean increased bacteria concentration which can cause more decay and bone loss. We have a variety of products to help alleviate your dry mouth today. Back To Top

My wisdom teeth are coming in. Do I need them removed?

It depends. Wisdom teeth are very far back in the mouth, which is very hard to clean and may be more prone to decay and gum disease. Some wisdom teeth are “impacted,” meaning they fail to emerge through the gums, and they can sometimes get infection of the gums (pericoronitis) which are very painful and bad taste. Back To Top
